Facebook: Your account is temporarily unavailable due to site maintenance.

I hope that this is just a normal site maintenance. Oh, Facebook, don’t disable my account like Robert Scoble. (Luckily he managed to reinstate it back!) Anyone having this kind of error message?

Update from Facebook from the help page:

“Site Maintenance” usually means that we’re making an improvement to the database that your account is stored on. While we’re doing this, you will not be able to access your account. In most instances, this maintenance will last only a few hours. Please note:

• After the maintenance is over, you will still be able to login with the same password.
• Your profile and account will not be affected by the maintenance.
• We don’t do site maintenance on all accounts at the same time, so it is possible that some of your friends will be able to access the site while your account is unavailable.
• It is not necessary to contact us about Site Maintenance.
• If your maintenance lasts longer than 24 hours, please follow these instructions to clear your browser’s cache and cookies.

Below is the fix (for a few of you) getting the site maintenance error. I’ve been getting it since Saturday and it’s still not fixed.

I get a “Site Maintenance” error.

Clearing your cache and cookies
Sometimes your Internet browser may be the cause of the problems you experience on Facebook. To fix your problem, you may need to clear your browser’s cache and cookies. Please follow the instructions below.

Internet Explorer 6.0

1. Click “Tools,” then “Internet Options.”
2. On the General tab, in the “Temporary Internet Files” section, click the “Delete Files” button.
3. Select “Delete Cookies.”
4. Click “Close.”
5. “Quit” the browser.

Internet Explorer 7.0

1. Click “Tools,” then “Delete Browsing History.”
2. In the “Temporary Internet Files” section, click on “Delete Files” and select “Yes.”
3. In the “Cookies” section, click on “Delete Cookies” and select “Yes.”
4. Click “Close.”
5. “Quit” the browser.

Internet Explorer 8.0

1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click “Internet Options.”
2. The Internet Options box should open to the General tab.
3. On the General tab, in the Browsing History section, click the “Delete…” button.
4. In the “Delete Browsing History” window that comes up, make sure that “Temporary Internet Files” and “Cookies” are selected.
5. Click the “Delete” button and restart the browser.
